Born July 12, 1927 at home in Lawrenceville. Mother's family (LoPinto) had a fruit store of Butler Street. Father's family part owners of Arsenal Lanes later on. Graduated Sampson NY, US Naval Training Center June 25, 1945, Co 384. Served aboard the USS Franklin D Roosevelt (CVB/CVA/CV-42) attack aircraft carrier as a gunner. On "Rosie", the second of 3 Midway class carriers, Augie spent 10 days in Rio de Janeiro during the maiden (shakedown) voyage under Captain Apollo Soucek.
