The Life of Eve W. Gottesman

Eve Weiss Gottesman, only child of Frank Weiss and Irene Weiss (neé Zipser), wife of Leonard Gottesman, and mother of Daniel and Natan (Thomas) Gottesman died on Sunday, October 8th, 2017.  Len, Dan, and Natan were with Eve, holding her hands when she breathed her last breath.

Eve was born on June 8th, 1930 in Kosice, Czechoslovakia and emigrated to the United States with her parents in 1934.  She and her parents escaped Europe in time, but sadly, lost many family members in the Holocaust. Growing up in Cleveland, Eve was bright and a voracious reader, attending Cleveland Height High. Eve and Len married in 1952, welcoming first Dan and then Natan.

Eve attended fashion design school at age 18, and subsequently lived in New York City before returning to Cleveland.  Eve’s second profession was raising her two boys. She returned to college at the University of Michigan, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in the late 1960s.  After the family moved to Philadelphia in 1971, Eve attended Bryn Mawr College, earning her Master’s degree in Social Work.  Eve was a respected social worker, working at the Philadelphia Health Management Corporation, the Pennsylvania Corporation for Aging, and Jewish Federation of Philadelphia. Eve was also heavily involved in Women’s Way and the Elizabeth Blackwell Center.

Eve was well known among friends, family and colleagues for her warmth, caring, creativity, classy style, exquisite taste, and sharp intellect.  She was also well known by Len, Dan, and Natan for her ruthless, but accurate, red Flair pen with which she edited our papers and proposals and made us all better writers. Eve’s high standards, care, ethics and meticulous nature made many people and things around her better.

In addition to Len, Dan and Natan, Eve is survived by daughters-in-law Lisa Kollisch Gottesman and Susan Gottesman (nee Roberts) and grandchildren Jacob and Reuben Gottesman and Talia and Eliana Gottesman.

May Her Memory Be For A Blessing.
