The Life of Cynthia K. Steward Ringe

Cynthia Kirven Steward Ringe of Berwyn Cynthia Kirven Steward Ringe, 80, founder and former owner of The Tennis Farm, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2017 while surrounded by close family. Cindy blazed her own trail and through her leadership of The Tennis Farm, made a positive difference in the lives of thousands of tennis players in the Philadelphia area, New Jersey and Delaware for nearly 40 years. Cindy believed that through tennis, students could learn important life lessons, develop skills through perseverance and work well with others. She wanted to bring out the best in her students and counselors and make tennis accessible. Cindy offered campers’ scholarships to those in need. As a sponsor for professional tournaments, The Tennis Farm taught children proper ball collecting technique and courtside etiquette. She also earned a patent for a special tennis rebound net. Cindy was born and raised in Texas and was chosen as the symbol of beauty of Houston with her picture on the cover of the Newsweek issue in 1954. Cindy attended Pine Manor College, where she initiated and led the Off Beats choral group. Afterwards, she married her betrothed and raised their four children. Cindy was a devoted and loving wife of Tom for 59 years. She brought a positive spirit to everything she touched. Cindy was comfortable in any setting, a fine decorator, entertaining storyteller, and talented singer. Cindy was an active member of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Acorn Club, and Colonial Dames. She leaves behind her children Thomas BK Ringe III, Kirven Talone, Kate Welch, and Beth Hunter, her brother David Steward of Ohio, sister Karen Norman of Texas, and eight grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Thomas BK Ringe, Jr. and brother Wendell Steward of Oklahoma. A service honoring her full and vibrant life will be held on May 13 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Church in Berwyn.
