Frances Woodcock Saulnier of Berwyn, PA was born July 3, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the daughter of the late William Irwin Woodcock and Helen Campbell Woodcock. Her father was Chief Counsel and First Vice President of the Reading Company (AKA Reading Railroad). Frances is survived by her beloved daughter Amy Saulnier Hesler (David), many cousins, and her little dog Cashew whom she adored. She is preceded in death by her former husband, George Stellwagen Saulnier.
Frances passed away on Saturday evening, August 12, 2017 at Paoli Hospital after a short, but courageous battle with lung cancer.
Frances and her family lived in the Overbrook Section of Philadelphia until she was 10, and then they moved to Haverford, PA where she grew up adjacent to Merion Cricket Club, where she and her parents were members for many years. Many years later, Frances would return to her childhood home to raise her daughter, Amy.
Frances attended The Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, PA , where she graduated as a "lifer". She then went on to attend Smith College, and ultimately from Temple University with a degree in sociology.
After college, before starting her family, Frances was a member of The Savoy Company of Philadelphia, and The Players Club of Swarthmore. Frances had a beautiful singing voice and was a fine actor. She always loved the theater and the arts throughout her life.
Frances spent the bulk of her professional career in residential real estate, beginning in Wallingford, PA and then on the Main Line until she retired. She also used to teach horseback riding, as she was an avid horsewoman growing up, including being a member of Baldwin's then equestrian team, a sport that does not exist today at the school.
Frances was a staunch Democrat, and volunteered throughout many election cycles during her life. She was a huge animal and nature lover. Frances enjoyed traveling and meeting new people and experiencing different cultures. Haiti was one of her favorite places, in particular. Frances was a lifelong bridge player, avid reader, and loved playing tennis. And Frances was also a talented dancer, and loved music.

After retirement, Frances taught English as a Second Language and was a volunteer for Surrey Services for Seniors.
Frances will always be remembered for her quick wit and sense of humor. And she was kind. Frances will be missed by all who knew her. A memorial service and celebration of the life of Frances Woodcock Saulnier will be held Friday, September 8, 2017 at Alleva Funeral Home located at 1724 East Lancaster Ave, Paoli, PA 19301 (610)-644-3540. Visitation will be at 10 A.M. with a service to follow in the funeral home at 11 A.M. Interment will be private.
