The Life of RUTH LAVALLEE

LaVALLEE
RUTH (KUNST)
Age 87, went home to God on Saturday, August 5, 2017. Daughter of the late Peter M. Kunst and the late Theresa (Krauth) Kunst; sister of the late Paul M. Kunst (the late Elsie A. Warhol Kunst), and the late Anne Margaret Kunst Plaehn; and wife of the late Charles Calixa LaVallee to whom she was married for 46 years. Her father, Peter Kunst, founded Kunst Bakery in Brookline in 1937 and in Oakland, on Forbes Avenue in 1945. After her father's death in 1973, she and her brother, Paul continued the bakery, an Oakland institution and tradition, until their retirement in 2003. She loved the bakery and personified the slogan her dad created, "It pleases us to please you." She felt it was a privilege to serve all, individuals, hospitals, universities, and the community. She also cherished her friendships and appreciated those who cared for her in her final years. But, her greatest love was her family and she always acted in their best interest. She especially loved being a grandmother. Ruth was known by all to be a genuinely sweet, kind and caring person. She is survived by her son, Charles P. LaVallee and his wife, Terese Vorsheck; her grandson, Daniel C. LaVallee and his wife, Terrina; and great-granddaughter, Kalea Grace; stepgranddaughters, Ally (Vorsheck) Sparacino (and her husband Chris) and Sarah Vorsheck and stepgranddaughter, Laena Ilk and stepgrandson, the late Joshua Ilk; as well as her nieces and nephews. Friends and family will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC., 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street (freyvogelfuneralhome.com) on Thursday, August 10, 2017, from 4-7 p.m. with a memorial service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made in memory of Ruth LaVallee to Variety the Children's Charity, 11279 Perry Highway #512, Wexford, PA 15090.
