The Life of Ellen Swoyer Manning

Ellen Swoyer Manning died unexpectedly, but peacefully on April 16, 2017 in Fort Worth, Texas at the age of 67. Her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter were by her side.

Ellen is survived by her children, Christopher John Manning and Sarah Ryan Wellborn; their spouses, Melissa Christine Manning and Jeffrey Dejarnette Wellborn; her grandchildren, Ryan Christopher Manning, Annabel Rose Manning and Sylvie Ellen Wellborn; her sisters, Susan Swoyer Lloyd, Mary Swoyer-Larson, Patricia Swoyer-Salber and Anne Swoyer;  many cousins,  two nephews, and a niece. She is preceded in death by her father, George Ryan Swoyer and mother, Jeanne Patterson Jopson.  

Ellen was born on June 22, 1949 in Germantown, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School in 1966.

Ellen was a spearhead of the Friends of Bethlehem Pike and responsible for the revitalization of the Black Horse Inn. She was an advocate for women in crisis, tirelessly working with victims of domestic violence. Ellen also enjoyed spending time with her patients in hospice. She continued her generous support of this work after moving to Alvarado, Texas in 2014.  

A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00pm on Saturday, June 24th at West Laurel Hill Cemetery. Dr. Elizabeth Frumin will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ellen’s life.
