The Life of Louise Givens Smith

Louise (Peewee) Givens Smith, age 87, of Vero Beach, FL, formerly of Philadelphia, PA, passed away on May 23, 2017. She was born August 10, 1929 in Caracas, Venezuela, where her father was employed by Sun Oil. Louise was a graduate of The Agnes Irwin School, Rosemont, PA. Mr. and Mrs. Smith first came to Vero Beach as seasonal residents and lived on their trawler for 3 years at Riomar Bay Yacht Club; prior to moving to Vero Beach year round 20 years ago, coming from Philadelphia. Mrs. Smith was a member of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia and a volunteer at Bryn Mawr Hospital and later Indian River Medical Center for over 65 years combined. She was a member of the Merion Cricket Club, Gibson Island Yacht Club, Riomar Bay Yacht Club, The Moorings Yacht & Country Club and Sam’s Club. Mrs. Smith was a “great old broad” with a wonderful sense of humor, who enjoyed entertaining and being entertained. She sailed with her husband for many years on the Chesapeake Bay and the Intracoastal Waterway. Louise is survived by her son, Earle (Daralyn) Smith III of Pittsburgh, and daughters, Leigh L. Bergstrom of Vero Beach, formerly of Philadelphia, and Anne (Glenn) Welch of Richland, WA; grandchildren, Earle Smith IV and Elliot Smith, Alexandra Bergstrom, Randy Welch and Garrett Welch, as well as her great-grandchild, Hartley Ann Welch; also her sister, Lillian Warren resides in Hilton Head, SC and her pampered yorkie, Penny, both of whom she adored. She was predeceased by her husband, Earle Smith, Jr., in 2001. A Celebration of Her Life was held 4 - 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 31st, at The Moorings Club, Vero Beach.
