The Life of Samuel Wheat

WHEAT, Samuel E., 89, of Ridley Park, PA, died Memorial Day, Monday May 29, 2017. Samuel was a proud Navy veteran. He served on the U.S.S. Panamint, a communications ship, involved in some of the first nuclear testing operations. After the service, he worked for PECO, for over 42 years, as a substation operator and retired as a supervisor. He was an avid golfer, and was a loving husband, father and Pop Pop. He and his wife of 65 years, Florence, loved to vacation every summer in Wildwood Crest, were both avid restaurateurs.  He is pre-deceased by his parents, Samuel and Louise, siblings, Doris Myers and Richard C., and a son in-law, Timothy Tompkins. He is survived by his wife, Florence (nee Schaber), children: Kathy Lynn Tompkins, Gail Bowersox (George Bowersox), and Mark (Jacki Wheat); grandchildren: Laura Haynes (Thom Haynes), Ryan Tompkins (Lauren Tompkins), Tara Gaberlein (Eric Gaberlein), George Bowersox (Jennifer Bowersox), Heather Bowersox, Samantha, Kiersten, and Allison; and great grandchildren: Tyler, Louis, Lucas, Cassidy, and Georgie. Funeral Service at 12 noon, Friday, June 2nd  at West Laurel Hill Funeral Home, Inc., 225 Belmont Ave., Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004. Interment immediately following.
