The Life of Ethel David Gerber

GERBER, Ethel “Sunny” David (nee Bastress)
April 11, 2017, 91 years.  Born in Mt. Carmel, PA, Sunny was a graduate of Linden Hall in Lititz, PA and Drexel University.  She and her first husband Clifford C. David raised their family in East Mt. Airy and later moved to Lower Gwynedd.  She and her husband, Gordon W. Gerber, made their home at Meadowood in Lansdale.  Always, Sunny returned to her cottage on Roaring Creek, sharing the place she loved as a girl with all those she held dear.  Among her many activities, Sunny was a member of the Germantown Hospital Women’s Committee, the Germantown Historical Society and the First Presbyterian Church in Germantown.  She took pleasure in making her homes comfortable, beautiful places and in entertaining family and friends.  She had a lifelong passion for nature and was a talented and enthusiastic gardener.  Sunny’s commitment to nurturing her family was unwavering and she found great joy in her close relationship as “Ahma” to her grandchildren.  She is survived by her husband, Gordon Gerber, her sons and their spouses, Clifford C. David, Jr. (Patricia), R. Kimber David (Christine), and S. Edgar David (Karen), eight grandchildren, and a nephew, James B. Brown (Heather).  She is also survived by her husband’s children, Patricia Opderbeck (Gerd), Gordon W. Gerber, Jr. (Laurie), two grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.  She is predeceased by her first husband, Clifford David, and her sister, Elizabeth Bastress Brown.  Visitation at 12:00 noon; Services at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 15 at West Laurel Hill Funeral Home, Inc. in Bala Cynwyd, PA.  Interment follows immediately.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Roaring Creek Valley Conservation Association, 702 Sawmill Road, Suite 204, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
