SWINDLER-SHANK
CAROLYN

Of Mt. Lebanon, formerly of Edgewood, passed away on March 29, 2017, at the Family Palliative Care Hospice in Pittsburgh. She was born Oct. 13, 1947, to the late John and Marjorie Swindler of Mt. Lebanon. Carolyn is survived by her son, Robert Shank and wife, Lisa of Castle Shannon; grandchildren, R.J. Shank and Kaitlyn Shank; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, John Swindler and wife, Carol of Lancaster, PA; and her sister, Jennifer Swindler-Fixx of Mt. Lebanon. Carolyn was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Swindler. Carolyn was active with a homeless outreach at Trinity Cathedral and assisting at the polls on Election Day. During the 1990s she made a couple trips to Russia to assist with inaugurating AA and Al-Anon programs in this newly independent nation. Previously Carolyn worked as an Emergency Medical Technician at Allegheny County Community College. Carolyn had a strong love for her family, particularly great-grandchildren. She also spoke fondly of the recent Edgewood High School all-class reunion and the opportunity it provided to reconnect with many friends from her high school days. Among her interests was a fondness for all things English, which the family inherited from our mother. She enjoyed attending the British military band concerts in Pittsburgh when they toured the 'colonies', particularly the sound of bagpipes. A memorial service celebrating Carolyn's life will be held at Trinity Cathedral in Pittsburgh at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2017. Interment will be in Homewood Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2017.
