The Life of Christopher Piontkowski

Christopher Piontkowski left this reality on the morning of Thursday, February 23, 2017 in Havertown, Pennsylvania.  Chris has always believed in surrounding himself with great people and was fortunate to have his family and great friends to provide him comfort as he succumbed to his condition after a long and hard fought battle.

Although Chris’s true origins are mired in mystery, his life began at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre. He was the son of John Clemence Piontkowski and Mary Elizabeth Heck.  Like his slightly taller brother, Jason, Chris was a student in the Pittston Area School District. Chris was a gifted student, athlete, and big brother.   He was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, and so many other organizations that Jason, his brother, could not remember them all. Chris was a member of Pittston’s track team and was a captain of the varsity boys’ basketball team. In 1989, Chris attended Dickinson College. The Dickinson Red Devils, the men’s basketball team, put Chris’s sharp elbows to great use and the Theta Chi fraternity considered Chris to be their most well-dressed brother. In 1993, Chris earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science where he learned slightly more than he has subsequently forgotten about Turing machines.

After graduating from College, Chris grew a ponytail, started his career as a software developer, and met his loving wife, Laura.  Laura and Chris were married on May 8, 2004. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Rylie Marie and Lila Reese. Chris’s wife and daughters loved him because of his amazing sense of humor, the special spot that he had for each of them in his heart, and because he was just such a great man.  He loved spending time with them at backyard movie nights, coaching their baseball and basketball teams, exploring the outdoors, and helping them build the biggest snowmen on the block.

Besides spending his days as a partner at KSM Technology Partners, Chris enjoyed hobbies and was talented in many ways. Chris would frequently be seen tending to his gardens and those of his extended family. Chris enjoyed planting flowers and herbs and sharing his tomato plants with his daughters.  He loved to cook and used his homegrown vegetables and herbs. Besides gardening, Chris was an avid woodworker and enjoyed working on projects with his brother-in-law Ryan.  He was in the process of launching his own DIY furniture business and planned to call it Unpainted Pennsylvania. Chris also looked forward to his early morning Crossfit workouts and prided himself in completing the daily WOD.  He loved pushing himself at the box and enjoyed sharing stories about his personal achievements with other Crossfit friends.

Chris is survived by his wife, Laura, his daughters, Rylie and Lila, his parents, John and Elizabeth, his brother, Jason and his brother’s wife Leanne.  He is also survived by his in-laws David and Mary Jo, brother and sister-in-law, Ryan and Liz, as well as his loving nephews and nieces.  Family friendly cremation visitation will be held at West Laurel Hill Funeral Home on March 03, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and a Memorial Service on March 04, 2017 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.  Chris was not a suit and tie kind of guy so feel free to dress comfortably and if you choose, wear his favorite color green or share in his love of Hawaiian shirts.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Piontkowski Family youcaring page at goo.gl/MeYiQl or the Kevin Cain Memorial Foundation.

For driving directions to West Laurel Hill, use gps address 321 Belmont Avenue, Bala Cynwyd.

Glad to have met Christopher/ Pinto

2 yrs ago my family happened to be vacationing on Cape Cod at the same time as his. My sister and her husband spoke highly of their frienship with Pinto. We all took a trip to the beach. It really was a great day. What i remember most about Pinto was that I felt comfortable right away after meeting him. Also, he truly showed his love for his family..playing with them in the water most of the afternoon. Im saddened. Thinking of the family.

Pittston Area Basketball team of 1989

On behalf of the Pittston Area Class of 1989 basketball team, I offer our condolences. I can confirm first hand that Chris had very sharp elbows. He also had could stop a Mack truck with his screens. That team was successful on and off the court and Chris was an exemplar member and co-captain. He was smart, hard working and a great teammate. The memories of those games and bus rides are as vivid today as they were 28 years ago. Chris's photograph is evidence that his smile changed very little in these many years. This world has lost a very good man, Heaven has gained a wonderful power forward. Our prayers go out to his family on this huge loss in the middle...of all of our hearts.
