ANNE WHITLINGER HANKS

Age 92, of Stuart, FL formerly Point Breeze, passed away peacefully February 12, 2017. Born April 25, 1924, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin W. Haseltine. Mrs. Haseltine attended Duke University and the University of Pittsburgh where she earned her Bachelor's Degree; she received her Master's in Education from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity, East Liberty Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, Peace Presbyterian Church in Stuart, FL, and Miles Grant Country Club in Stuart. Mrs. Haseltine taught Kindergarten in Pittsburgh Public Schools and was one of the first teachers to implement the Head Start Program into the curriculum. For many years, she and her husband were owners/operators of White Mountain Ski Area in the Laurel Highlands. Both family and friends have many fond memories of weekends spent up at "The Mountain". She will be remembered as a vibrant, loving, and caring wife, mother, and grandmother who was loved by all who knew her. She is survived by her two sons, Fred (Eileen) Hanks of Gibsonia, PA and Scott (Margaret) Hanks of Raleigh, NC; five grandchildren, Travis (Missy) Hanks, Tanner (Chase) Hanks, Andrew Hanks, Lindsay (Ryan) Richards, and David Hanks; and two great- grandchildren, Conrad Hanks and Brody Richards. Friends received Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME, 5864 Heckert Rd., Bakerstown, where services will be held following visitation at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, family asks donations be made to The Cancer Caring Center, 4117 Liberty Ave., Pgh., PA 15224.
