The Life of Dr. I. Bruce Elfenbein

ELFENBEIN, Dr. I. Bruce, 79, of Philadelphia, died Sunday, February 12, 2017.  Bruce received his undergraduate degree at Yale University, graduated from Yale Medical School, did his residency at Johns Hopkins and was a Professor of Pathology at Temple University Hospital and Cooper University Hospital. He was an avid cyclist and a competitive squash player. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Christine Bastl, children: Randy (Carolee Marano), Elizabeth (peter Blatchford), Michael, and Rachel (Nathaniel Mahlberg); grandchildren: Olivia, Laurel, Georgia, Max, Ian, Sam, and Alma; and brother, Gerald, M.D. He is predeceased by his daughter in-law, Debbie Preg. Funeral Service, at noon, Wednesday, February 15th at West Laurel Hill Funeral Home, Inc., 225 Belmont Ave., Bala Cynwyd, PA.  A greeting period will begin 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will immediately follow at West Laurel Hill Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at the late residence, Wednesday after the burial and Thursday from 5-9 p.m., with the evening service beginning at 7 p.m. both nights. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
