The Life of Joanna Hamill Flum

Flum, Joanna Hamill, of Philadelphia, PA, died Monday, February 6, 2017. She was born in Washington, PA, the daughter of Albert and Mary Jane Proia (Raymond). She attended Overbrook High School and then continued with her undergraduate studies at Bryn Mawr College where she graduated Cum Laude. She later completed her education at Temple University Law School where she earned a J.D. She was a lawyer for many years and earned the distinction of becoming the first woman president of The Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association. She also served as Judge Pro Tempore in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. She was the recipient of the Pennsylvania Association for Justice Service Award in 2009. She was a committee woman for a Lower Merion Republican Party Precinct. Joanna was an avid ballroom dancer. She performed in numerous competitions with her husband for over 5 years. She is preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Proia. She is survived by her Husband of 42 years, A. Theodore Flum; 2 sisters: Diana Proia Davis and Michele Proia (John); and a nephew, Anthony. Visitation at 10:30 AM on Friday, February 10, 2017 with Funeral Service immediately following at 11:00 AM, at West Laurel Hill Funeral Home, 225 Belmont Ave., Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004.
