Mrs. Mercy Sounderarajah passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family on February 2, 2017 in Pittsburgh, PA. She was a nurturing wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. Born in Sri Lanka, Mercy courageously emigrated to the United States in the 1970's with her husband, the late Dr. Kandan Sounderarajah to pursue the stability and freedoms a life in America provides. Mercy's professional talents were extensive and ranged widely from nursing to catering to becoming a master seamstress. Indeed, in Pittsburgh in the 1990's, her bridal headpieces were the most highly sought-after by fashionable brides as she freelanced out of several of the the most upscale bridal boutiques in the city. As her thousands of friends and family all over the world will attest, Mercy was one of the most generous people they knew. No possession was too dear that she would not gladly donate it to someone in need. She had a keen sense of humor, and made any social gathering more convivial because of her presence. Mercy had a lifelong unwavering Christian faith, and was a vital member of every church to which she belonged. She was a member and staunch supporter of the Asian-Indian Christian Church of Pittsburgh (AICCP) for the last 17 years of her life. AICCP brought her much personal joy in her twilight years. Mercy was deeply loved and is survived by her daughters, Dr. Juliet Jegasothy (the late Dr. Brian V. Jegasothy) and Dr. Rose P. Draviam; her son-in- law, Mr. Godfrey Draviam; her grandchildren, Dr. S. Manjula Jegasothy (Stephen Hooper), Mr. S. Manoj Jegasothy, Esq. (Michele Puig-Antich Jegasothy, Esq.), Rajika Emily Reed (Christopher Reed) and Dr. Romesh Draviam (Gaya Draviam). Mercy's loving great- grandchildren are: Catalina Jegasothy, Gabriela Jegasothy, Zia Reed, Eshan Reed and Adrian Draviam.
