The Life of James H. Connor

Life Story

James “Jim” Howard (Jackson) Connor was called home on Christmas Day, December 25, 2016 after a long illness. He was courageous throughout this difficult time with an unwavering faith in the Lord’s blessings. Jim, the sixth child of William and Hilda Jackson, was born on June 13, 1952 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As the baby of a large family, Jim enjoyed being pampered and was greatly loved by all.

After graduating from South Philadelphia High School in 1970, Jim was drafted into the United States Army where he served as a medic in Korea and Germany. After returning to the states in 1976, Jim graduated with honors from the Respiratory Specialist Program in the Army Academy of Health Sciences, San Antonio, Texas. Jim, a dedicated and skilled respiratory therapist, founded Health Services Incorporated, which he led for many years before retiring in 2005.

In 1964 Jim spoke the prayer of salvation and took Jesus Christ as his personal savior, thus beginning his journey of worship. In 2011 he dedicated his life to the study of the Word and development of his spiritual growth. He studied under Apostle Fredrick Price for a year at Crenshaw Christian Ministry Training Center. In 2012-2013 Jim furthered his training completing the Five-Fold Leadership program through the Eagles International Leadership Institute under the direction of Apostle Kevin Nelson.  One of Jim’s greatest joys was teaching the Word which he lived every day.

Another of Jim's greatest passions was music, and he had a profound love of jazz. For many years he attended jazz festivals. Jim also loved to travel. He enjoyed vacationing in warm climates; especially Hilton Head, South Carolina where he loved playing a round of golf even in February!  Jim supported a few local artists in Hilton Head, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia.  As many Philadelphians, Jim was a passionate and rambunctious sports fan. He could be found many a day coaching his Philadelphia teams from his couch.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents: William and Hilda Jackson; his sisters: Marie Adams and Marilyn Kane. He is survived by his loving wife Meg, his children: James Jr, Raymond and Jeanne; his grandchildren: Justin, Allissa, Gabrielle, Summer, and Mason; his sister and brothers: Helen, William and Robert; brother-in-law Earl Blackwood and sister-in-laws Marcella, Patricia, Sallie, Michele, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
