The Life of Darrell D. Boyle

BOYLE, Darrell D., CDR USN RET., age 86 died Saturday November 26 in Merion Station, PA where he lived 42 years. He was born in San Diego, CA to Edward and Helma Boyle. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Joan (nee Sedlock) whom he married after the death of his first wife Amy (nee Tarr) in 1983.  Father of Jeffery J., C. Scott, and Thomas H. Boyle, Grandfather of William, Jackson, Amy and Elijah, stepfather of Pamela Foster and grandson Andrew J. Foster. He was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy Class of 1953, and the Monterey Naval Post Graduate School with a Master of Science in Business, he served in various submarines; USS VOLADOR (SS-490), USS REDFISH (SS-395) (in the 1958 movie "Run Silent, Run Deep"), USS HALIBUT (SSGN-587), USS JOHN MARSHALL (SSBN-611), and the Commanding Officer of the USS POLLACK (SSN-603), and the Submarine Desk for Acquisition and Improvement in the Pentagon.  Awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Unit Commendation and nine Deterrent Missile Patrol Awards.  He retired from the Navy in 1974 going to work for United Engineers and Constructors of Philadelphia for the design and construction of Nuclear Power Plants.  He was a long time member and Post Commander of the Merion American Legion Post 545 and a member of the United Methodist Church of Bala Cynwyd for 40 years where he served in various positions (Chairman of the Administrative Council, Chairman of the Finance Committee, Trustee, Treasurer and Usher). Interment private in West Laurel Hill Cemetery.
