The Life of Claudia P. Huber

CLAUDIA P. HUBER Claudia was born on December 27th, 1914, to Charles R. and Laura (Middaugh) Rice and raised in Philadelphia. She loved to dance and in her early years, she was asked to be a Rockette but her mother would not allow her. She met her husband, Harry, fell in love and got married. They had 2 children, Claudia and Hank, and moved to the suburbs of Springfield, PA to raise their family. It was a very close neighborhood and everyone knew each other and got along. HER HOUSE WAS A GATHERING AND MEETING PLACE FOR ALL. Her home was always open for ALL occasions whether it was a wedding, baby and wedding showers, surprise parties, christenings. You never went home hungry from Claudia’s house. She was also known for ALWAYS having string beans as part of every meal. She also had a group of friends that would meet once a month and each would take turns hosting at their home. There was always room for a precious pet. Her entire life she always had a dog or multiple dogs. She attended St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Havertown and later St. Marks United Methodist Church in Broomall. At age 70 she was working for Sears and Roebuck and Weight Watchers part time. Two years later she retired from Sears, sold her home in Springfield, and moved in with her daughter Claudia and her husband Mitch who had just married and purchased a home in Broomall. At age 84 she had a 5-bypass surgery and the first question for the surgeon was “When can I go back to work”. She continued to work for Weight Watchers until she suffered a stroke at age 92. Her daughter and son-in-law continued with her care for 30 years. When she turned 100 years old she thought she was just going out for a quiet dinner but was surprised when 50 family and friends were there to help her celebrate. Claudia enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting, reading and loved working and being around family and friends. Claudia’s secret to her longevity was to eat healthy and to continue to keep herself busy and around people. She is survived by her daughter, Claudia Robbins (Mitchel), 4 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry, and her son, Henry J.
