The Life of Elizabeth Uphouse Haight
Uphouse Haight, Elizabeth 95, affectionately known as Betsy, of Paoli, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, September 14th, 2016 in Malvern. She was born the daughter of Linwood and Maryanna Card (nee MacDowell) on September 22, 1920 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Betsy graduated from Upper Darby High school and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Maryland College for Women. She was an active participant in numerous community affairs; in particular, she took great pride and care in feeding the homeless of Philadelphia. Betsy is preceded in death by two husbands: Harry G. Uphouse Jr. and John S. Haight; and a son, Harry G. Uphouse III. She leaves to cherish in her memory two children: Linwood C. Uphouse and Beverley Cunningham (Martin); grandchildren: Brian G. Cunningham, (Aly) and Heidi L. Cunningham (Tim Hannon); and great grandchildren: Patrick and Phoebe Hannon, and Charlie and Jack Cunningham. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 2:00 PM at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church, 600 Walker Rd., Wayne, PA 19087. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Betsy’s honor can be made to the Eagles Mere Conservancy; P.O. Box 64, Eagles Mere, PA 17731.
