The Life of Eleanor Calesnick

Eleanor Jaspan Calesnick passed away peacefully on August 5, 2016.  She was 93 years old.
She was a lifelong resident of Philadelphia and Merion Station, Pennsylvania, survived by two daughters who loved her very much, Lynn Schlossberger, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Lisa Bradway Vickers, of Brooklyn, Connecticut, as well as Lisa's husband Bob, grandson Marshall Bradway, granddaughter Kate Bradway, and a new great grandson Chase Bradway, all of Connecticut.  She is preceded in death by her husband Milton Calesnick, her brother Mel Jaspan, and her parents Kate and Herb Jaspan.  She was devoted to her family, endlessly gracious, and made her home the gathering place for loved ones near and far, the glue that kept us connected.
She grew up on a neighborly block in West Philadelphia, where she lived until starting her family.  She studied Bacteriology at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, earning a BS in 1943; she worked in a research lab for the US Department of Agriculture, and taught lab courses in Microbiology in the school of nursing at the University of Pennsylvania.  She maintained a lifelong interest in science, classical music, American antiques, and her Jewish heritage.  Her kitchen table was always a place of interesting conversation.
Mom taught us many things about patience and tolerance, family traditions, crumb crust apple pie, lifelong learning, and that broken pretzels have no calories.  We are so grateful to have had her in our lives for 93 years, and will have her in our hearts forever.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, Aug. 8th, 2016 at West Laurel Hill Funeral Home, 225 Belmont Ave., Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004.
