The Life of Oscar R. Weiner

Oscar R. Weiner, M.D. died in the company of his family on Wednesday, June 29th in hospice at Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood, PA, at the age of 92. A lifelong resident of the Philadelphia area, Dr. Weiner was a physician and practicing psychiatrist for over 60 years.  He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, Class of 1944, and completed his medical training at Hahnemann Medical College.  He was stationed at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington D.C., where he became interested in psychiatry.  He was a pioneer in the field of family therapy and a founding member of the Family Institute of Philadelphia. He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Joan, his children, Mark (Chris), Marcie (Steve), Jon (Emilia), his daughter-in-law Kathy LeGrand, and six grandchildren (Molly, Kelly, Cristina, Natalia, Zoe and Jonah).  He was predeceased by his first wife Rae.  Memorial services will be Sunday, July 24th at 11:00 AM at the Conservatory at West Laurel Hill Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to the charity of your choice.
