The Life of Rosabraida Ashton

Rosabraida Elizabeth Ashton was born to Benjamin Benson and Laura (Cason) Paige on July 18, 1953. Known as “Braida” to family and close friends, she was bubbly and outgoing, loving music, dancing, cooking and fashion. She grew up in West Philadelphia, graduating from John Bartram High School in 1971. A lifelong passion for cooking became a vocation, first at her mother’s restaurant and later at the School District of Philadelphia, where she worked in food service. After retiring from the food service industry, she assisted in the care of her mother until her death in 2010. In addition to being a great cook, she loved to garden, was a dedicated Philadelphia Eagles fan, adored mystery shows and books, and loved the beach (and the casino!). But most of all, she was a loving mother and a devoted grandmother, sister, daughter and friend. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Calvin Ashton, aunt Mary Benson, siblings Nazirah Bashir, Lonnie Church, Jr., Octavia Farrare, Gail Garvin, Benjamin Paige and Yvonne Paige, niece Olivia Small, and three nephews. She is survived by her children, Mychael Wright (Geraldine Wright), Erin Wright, Pilar Ashton, and David Burk; grandchildren Jahnae, John, Jabari, Jaelin, Marlon, Marcell, Iyanna, and Ahmiyah; sisters Chaney Alulis (Vincent Alulis), Yvette Benson, Yvonne Benson, Barbara Elmore, Beverly Paige and Shirley Paige; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation at 10 a.m. and Funeral Service at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 31st at Bringhurst Funeral Home at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, 225 Belmont Ave., Bala Cynwyd, PA  19004. Interment immediately following at Fernwood Cemetery.
