The Life of Eleanor R. Fletcher

Eleanor Ruth (Furman) Fletcher, 83, of Pottstown, wife of Horace Fletcher III, passed away on Friday, Aug. 21 at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. Born in the East Falls neighborhood of Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late David and Sarah E. (Hari) Furman. Eleanor earned her BS in Elementary Education at West Chester University and her Master in Sociology and Counseling at PSU. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Pottstown where she was an elder, a deacon and taught nursery school. Prior to moving to Pottstown, she was a member of the East Falls Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Goschenhoppen Historians. Eleanor was a talented educator, artist, seamstress and gourmet chef and was also a captivating and fascinating conversationalist. Eleanor loved the New Jersey Shore and traveling the world. Surviving with her husband of 62 years are sons Horace Fletcher IV, husband of Barbara, of Gilbertsville; Scott K. Fletcher, husband of Tracey, of Sarasota, FL and Christian M. Fletcher of New York, NY; siblings Edith Miller, Daniel R. Furman and Martha Patton; and grandchildren Horace Fletcher V and Trevor A. Fletcher. Along with her parents, she is predeceased by brothers David and William, and sister Dorothy. A funeral service will be Saturday, Aug. 29, 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 750 N. Evans Street, Pottstown, PA 19464. Burial will follow in West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd. Visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 29 from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at the church.
