The Life of Alice Lachman Chambers
Alice Lillian Lachman Chambers(1928 - 2015)
CHAMBERS, Alice L. Alice Lillian Lachman Chambers, 86, of Sandy Springs GA and, lately, of Marietta GA, passed away, peacefully, in the presence of her husband and children on June 18, 2015. Alice was born to the late Charles Rhoads Lachman and Lillian Zirkman Lachman in Philadelphia, PA on August 11, 1928. She graduated from Lower Merion High School. Class of 1946 and received a B.A from Ursinus College, Class of 1950. While at Ursinus, Alice met and became engaged to a returning war veteran, Walter Edmund Chambers, III, also of Philadelphia. They were married at Bala Cynwyd Methodist Church on November 4, 1950. After living in the Philadelphia area, they moved to Sherborn, MA in 1967 and to Sandy Springs GA in 1971. Alice was a steadfast and loving wife and mother who devoted most of her time and energy to her home and family. She was also an active member of Roswell Presbyterian Church, where she participated in the same Sunday school class for three decades. Alice is survived by her husband of 64 years, Walter, her son, Charles Chambers of Dunwoody GA; her daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and William Pharr of Buckhead GA and Marjorie and David McKenna of Marietta GA; and her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Lisa Chambers of Duluth GA. She is also survived by grandchildren, Leah Pharr, John Pharr, Charles McKenna, Peter McKenna, Alison Chambers, Anna Chambers and Thomas Chambers; sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Peter Munger; sister, Marjorie Chandler of West Chester PA; and sister-in-law, Esther Adams, of West Chester PA. Alice was predeceased by two grandchildren, W. Samuel Pharr, Jr. and Thomas Pharr and had nine nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Roswell Presbyterian Church, Roswell GA at 11:00am on Friday, June 26th and a graveside funeral held at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, PA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Roswell Presbyterian Church in Roswell, Georgia or to Georgia Community Support and Solutions at gacommunity.org.
