The Life of Barbara Dewar

Barbara A. Dewar, 83, a longtime resident of Prospect Park, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 8, 2015 at the Prospect Park Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Catharine Harbidge. Barbara worked for a period of time years ago in the Recorder of Deeds Office at the Delaware County Court House in Media. She was active in the 1950’s in the Parent Teacher Association in the local school district. She also served as a Republican Committeewoman in Prospect Park for a number of years. Barbara was a long time member of St. James Episcopal Church in Prospect Park. Most importantly, she will be remembered as a woman who was devoted to her home and family. She was the wife of the late James T. Dewar and was also predeceased by her daughter, Christine Dewar. Survivors: Barbara is survived by her children, Catherine Dewar, Karen (Chip) DellaVecchio, James (Cindy) Dewar, Thomas Dewar, and Dan (Mable) Dewar; her nine grandchildren; and her sixteen great-grandchildren. Funeral Service: Will be held on Saturday, June 13th, at 10:30 A.M. at St. James Episcopal Church, 11th and Lincoln Avenues, in Prospect Park, Pa. Visitation: Will be on Saturday from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074. Burial: Will be in West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd, Pa. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Barbara’s memory to St. James Episcopal Church, 732 11th Avenue, Prospect Park, Pa. 19076 would be appreciated.
