The Life of Paul W. Knittel

KNITTEL, Paul W., Jr., 94, resident of Roxborough, PA for over 90 years, until the last few years where he resided at Sunrise Assisted Living in Lafayette Hill. Son of Paul W., Sr. and Marie (nee Miller), he graduated from Roxborough High School in 1939. He was Class and school president and ran in the Penn Relays on Roxborough High’s first track team. He attended University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a B.S. in Business in 1943, while lettering in 3 sports (soccer, track, and squash). Paul entered the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served for 4 years during World War II. He attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander, and retired after 20 years in the Naval Reserve. He went into business in 1951 and was president of Davis Building Supply, Co. in Germantown for 40 years. Paul was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Roxborough all his life and active in church choir. He played piano with the Aristocats 10 piece dance band. He was a songwriter in the 1940’s and 1950’s with RCA, Columbia Records, and Top Tunes Company. Passions in life included his family, Ocean City, NJ, tennis, piano, gardening and songwriting. He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Jane (nee Moyer), and devoted sons, Paul W., III (Karen) and David (Michele).  He was a loving Pop Pop to 6 grandchildren: David Jr., Christian, Paul, IV, Marissa, Matthew and Daine. Visitation at 10 a.m. and Funeral Services at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 12, 2015 at Bringhurst Funeral Home at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, 225 Belmont Ave., Bala Cynwyd, PA.  Interment immediately following.
