The Life of David Cole
COLE, David, 89, formerly of Bryn Mawr, died at his home in Exton on March 1, 2015. Born in Louisville, KY, he was the son of the late Colonel Philip Cole and Frances Taylor. He attended Lower Merion schools, and graduated from The Haverford School. Following service in the Army Air Force in World War II, he attended and graduated from Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine. Mr. Cole was active in the Philadelphia-Continental Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and a master Mason with Unity Lodge # 719 in Ardmore. He was a member of the American Legion Vandiver – Moylan Post #355 for many years, and active in the Society of the Forty and Eight and the Main Line High Twelve. He was employed in turn as editor for three employee publications, at the former Baldwin Locomotive Works, The Scott Paper Company and The Pennsylvania Railroad. He moved to industrial advertising with The Michener Company and later for the Harris D. McKinney Company, in Philadelphia. He completed his career following graduate work at Villanova University as a French teacher at The Haverford School. Mr. Cole was preceded in death by his second wife, Gladys H.K. Cole in 1991. He is survived by his dear friend, Carolyn Brown, of Exton. Mr. Cole had three children with his first wife, Audrey Tomlinson Cole, of Devon. He was preceded in death by his son Gregory, in 1982. Jennifer Baima resides in Wilmington, MA with her husband and their two children, Stephanie and Daniel. Cassandra Cole lives with her husband in Malvern. Interment will be at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, 225 Belmont Ave., Bala Cynwyd, PA on Saturday, May 23 at 10:00 AM.
