The Life of Julia McConnell Park

PARK, JULIA ELIZABETH McCONNELL, a long time resident of Bryn Mawr PA and Buck Hill Falls PA, died peacefully in her mountain home on February 28, 2015. She was 95. Born and raised in Talledega AL, she attended Agnes Scott College and earned a BA in Psychology from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1941. She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. After graduation, she joined the Navy as a WAVE and served as an Ensign in Norfolk VA, where she met and married John Robinson Park, her husband of 56 years who pre-deceased her. She was a remarkably gifted woman with such a keen intellect, a life long learner, a caring homemaker, and an active community member whose interests and talents comprised reading, cooking, entertaining, needlepoint, bridge, golf, decoupage, travel, piano, gardening and the performing arts. She was an admired Sunday School teacher and a contributing member of numerous committees and groups at The Ardmore Presbyterian Church. She competed on golf teams both at Buck Hills Falls and The Philadelphia Country Club and enjoyed being a member of several garden clubs. She was a particularly enthusiastic member of P.E.O. Sisterhood. Her appreciation for the natural world and beauty permeated her life. Her impeccable style, humor, and generosity were unforgettable.
She is remembered by her 2 daughters, Susan Park Mills of Savannah GA and Nancy Jackson Park of Santa Fe NM; and granddaughter, Sarah Robinson Mills of Santa Monica CA; as a devoted wife and mother, a devout Christian, and a beautiful woman whose gentle authentic presence, strength, creativity, and capacity for being alive set a very high bar. Her Memorial Service will be held at 2 P.M., on Thursday, March 5th, in the Chapel of Ardmore Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to charities dedicated to curing breast cancer or Alzheimer's disease. CHADWICK & McKINNEY F.H.
