The Life of Kula S. Sosangelis

Kula "Betty" (nee Shaiko), Jan 11, 2015. Born in Philadelphia, Pa on April 9, 1924. Daughter of the late Lazarus and Litsa Shaiko of Wynnewood, Pa. She graduated from West Philadelphia High School in 1943. Her yearbook states "Whenever there is a telephone conversation one is sure to find Kula, for this is her favorite indulgence." Before marrying and having a family, Kula worked as a milliner at Nan Duskin, for the Insurance Company of North America and at Drexel University's Library. In the early 1970's she was an active member of the Mayfield Guild of Rosemont College, an organization of mothers of Rosemont students. Her devotion to the Greek Orthodox community was demonstrated in many ways over a span of more than 60 years. She was a member and President of the Ladies Philoptochos at the local level and held the title of Second Vice President at the national level, Chairperson of the Sisterhood Program for St. Basil Academy, and awarded the Medal of St. Paul by Archbishop Iakovos. She took pleasure in doing for others. Devoted wife of the late Archon Charles Efstratios Sosangelis. Survived by daughters Ellen Sosangelis and Denise S. Gilmar, son Sotir Charles (Michele), and granddaughter Kayla Elise Gilmar. She was the loving aunt of many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Predeceased by brothers Lazarus Nicholas (Helen) Shaiko, Jr., Thomas (Ann), Michael, and Spiro, and by sisters Kay (Kimon) Haldas, Anna (Leon) Carafides, Dorothy, Mary and Anastasia Shaiko. Funeral service will be 11 A.M. Friday, at St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church, 35 N. Malin Rd, Broomall, Pa 19008. Viewing 9 to 11 A.M. Friday morning in the church. Interment, West Laurel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke Building Fund. Vraim Funeral Home, Inc.
