The Life of Shirley Stine

Shirley P. Stine passed away on Sunday January 4th 2015 at Rydal Park Medical Center.  She was born on  June 4th 1927 in Toledo Ohio to Roy and Iva Packard as the last of six siblings: Robert, Howard, Henry, Russell and Lucy.  She moved to Cleveland in 1933 and graduated from Cleveland Heights High in 1945.  She got her undergraduate degree in English from Wellesley College in 1949 and then moved to Philadelphia where she received her MA and PhD from the University of PA.  She was married to Harold Stine from 1950 until his death in 1977.  Her teaching career included Lankanau School for Girls, Beaver College (Arcadia), Drexel University, Harcum Junior College (as academic dean), Montgomery County Community College (as chairman of the English department).  She is survived by her sister Lucy Packard Kalbers of Avon Lake Ohio, her son Christopher (Sue) of New Castle Washington, her daughter Lucy (Kevin) of Corbas France, her grandson Michael of Kent Washington, her grandsons Jeremy and Ben and her granddaughter Michelle in France.  Her memorial service will be on January 8th 2015 at 2PM in the chapel at Rydal Park Medical Center in Jenkintown PA.  Memorials may be given to Abington Hospital Hospice or Rydal Park Retirement Community.
