The Life of Richard Stouffer

Richard N.Stouffer, Jr. 87, of South Pasadena, FL and formerly of Montoursville, PA, died peacefully on September 14, 2014 in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was born on November 11, 1926 in Camden, NJ to parents Elizabeth Lippincott and Richard Nuttall Stouffer. He was the brother of the late Shirley Stouffer Goslin. "Dick" was raised in Lansdowne, PA where he made many lifelong friends and met his future wife, Peggy Louise Bressler. After graduating from Lansdowne High in 1944 he enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in Pensacola, FL. He later was able to attend Temple University through the GI Bill and graduated in 1950. He made many friends as a member of Sigma Pi, and earned a degree in Business. Dick and Peggy were married in 1949 and began their new life in Radnor, PA. They had three daughters born in three different cities in Pennsylvania. The Stouffer family’s last move in PA was to Montoursville, where they lived for 31 years.

Dick’s outgoing personality and quick wit made him the ideal candidate as a sales representative; he worked mainly for companies in the audio-visual field, including Xerox and 3M, and travelled most of Pennsylvania's highways and byways while covering large territories. Often referred to as "King of the Road", he ended his career with Hoyer's Photo Supply, a small family owned business in Williamsport, PA.

He and Peggy, a retired Williamsport Area High School teacher of 26 years, travelled for a few years and then decided to move one more time, relocating to South Pasadena, FL in 1994. After Peggy's death in 1996, Dick was grateful for the new friends he had made, and he continued to stay in touch with old friends during his 20 years in Florida. He was an honored volunteer at Neighborly Senior Center’s Alzheimer’s Support Group, and often drove others to meetings. He and his close companion Barbara Burke travelled to Europe, Hawaii and family events later in his life.

Dick is survived by his daughters, Suzanne (Michael) Nunziata, Elizabeth Stouffer (Frank Amaral) and Amy (Tony) Leta; grandchildren Nicole Bjornvick, Frank, Dominic and Alex Amaral, and Angela and Gina Leta, and great-granddaughter, Avery Amaral. He proudly attended all college graduations of his three daughters and three granddaughters.

He also leaves behind many cherished friends, cousins, nieces and nephews in the Philadelphia and Williamsport areas, as well as Florida and many other parts of the country.

A family graveside burial will be held at West Laurel Hill Cemetery (Bringhurst Funeral Home) in Bala Cynwyd, Pa on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 11 AM, Reverend Dave Percy presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to a charity of your choice or to the WASD Education Foundation (attn. Margaret B. Stouffer award), 2780 West Fourth Street, Williamsport, PA. www.wasd.org
