The Life of Joseph Muscara

Joseph V. Muscara HUNTINGDON VALLEY, PA - Builder and horseman Joseph V. Muscara, 90, of Huntingdon Valley, PA, originally from South Philadelphia, passed away peacefully at his residence on July 7, 2014. Joe was the beloved husband of Lorraine for 64 years. He was the loving father of Joseph G. (wife, Johanna), Cheryl (husband, John) Rondinelli, Lori (husband, Mark Heron) Muscara, Robert (wife, Barbara), Mark (wife, Kristie); grandfather of Denise, Cheryl Ann, Tracy, Gina, Matthew, Joe, Mark, Bella, Caroline and Nicholas. He will be sadly missed by other family members, his many nieces and nephews, extended family, friends and by all who knew him. Joe was a local residential and commercial builder for over four decades in the suburban Philadelphia area. He built hundreds of residential homes, including homes in Green Ridge and Justa Farms/Albidale in Huntingdon Valley and Tannerie Run in Fort Washington. He also developed Jacksonville Road Industrial Park in Ivyland. Besides being a builder, Joe was also a distinguished and prolific harness racehorse owner/trainer since the early 1970s and owned hundreds of horses, including many champions. Joe started racing at Liberty Bell Park and Brandywine Raceway and went on to have horses win major championships, including the Meadowlands Pace, U.S. Pacing Championship and William Haughton Memorial in New Jersey, the Canadian Pacing Derby and Breeders Crown in Ontario, the Ben Franklin Championship in Pennsylvania, the Bobby Quillen Memorial in Delaware and the Allerage in Kentucky. To this day, he continues to have racehorses vying for major championships. Joe also proudly served in the Army during World War II. He was also a member of Cedarbrook Country Club in Blue Bell for over 50 years. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Sunday, July 13, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lamb Funeral Home, 101 Byberry Rd., Huntingdon Valley, PA. Viewing will also be at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Knowles Road and 2nd Street Pike, Southampton, PA 18966 on Monday, July 14, from 10 to 10:30 a.m., immediately followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. His interment will be in West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to a charity of the donor's choice.
