The Life of Elizabeth Bartlett St. Clair

ST. CLAIR ELIZABETH BARTLETT, known affectionately as Stevie or Liz, passed away April 1, 2014 after a long fight with Alzheimer's Disease. Liz was born in 1930 in Beckley, West Virginia. The only child of a school teacher and a principal, she was the Salutatorian of her high school class and then graduated Phi Beta Kappa as a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority from William and Mary at age 20.  She married J. Walton St. Clair, Jr. with whom she had four children. Liz was a tireless volunteer who somehow managed to fit in innumerable church activities while raising her children, being a Girl Scout leader, and participating in all her children's school activities.  After her children graduated from school, Liz herself went back to school and earned a Master's in Divinity from Moravian College, where she became professor of Christian education. She then went on to work more formally for the Methodist Church of Delaware, combining her love of teaching children and church activities. Liz was a steadfast steward to the Church, never met a stranger and was a friend to all she met.  Liz was predeceased by her husband J. Walton St. Clair, Jr. and is survived by her four children and their spouses: Jess and Carolyn St. Clair, Susan St. Clair Evatt and Bob Evatt, Bruce St. Clair, and Anne St. Clair Woron and Scott Woron. Nine grandchildren carry on her legacy and use the lessons she taught them daily.  Liz enriched the lives of friends, family and just about all she met. She leaves the world a better place than she found it, and without a doubt, led a well-lived life.  A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1314 Foulk Road, Wilmington, DE 19803 where friends and family may call beginning at 9:00 A.M. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Alzheimer's Foundation or the Girl Scouts of America in Mrs. St. Clair's honor.
