The Life of George Albert Bailey Jr.

George A. Bailey, Jr. – Father, grandfather, husband and friend; formerly of Narberth and Pocono Lake Preserve died June 24, 2014.

George A. Bailey, Jr., 88, President of mutual fund Sovereign Investors Inc. and long-time partner of Sovereign Advisors, Inc., died, after an extended illness, in Punta Gorda FL. Mr. Bailey was born and raised in Narberth, PA residing in that community and Pocono Lake Preserve, PA until his retirement.

Mr. Bailey attended and graduated from Lower Merion High School while growing up in Narberth. Upon graduation from Lower Merion, Mr. Bailey attended the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. His college education was temporarily stayed when Mr. Bailey enlisted in the Army. Mr. Bailey served in the European Theater during World War II; serving in combat as a member of the Fighting 69th Infantry “Hell Cats” Tank Destroyer division in France, Italy and Germany. During his tour he was awarded two Purple Hearts. Upon return from the war, Mr. Bailey completed his Wharton School education, graduating with a BS in Economics.

After several years in New York working on Wall Street, Mr. Bailey returned to Philadelphia and partnered with his father as part of George A. Bailey & Co., providing financial banking services to private clients and managing a mutual fund. Before forming Sovereign Advisors, Inc. with Thomas Cameron, Mr. Bailey was a partner at Hopper Soliday & Co. He was associated with the Sovereign Investors Mutual Fund from 1951 until 1997.

Mr. Bailey was the father of three boys, all of whom were also raised in Narberth. He married Beverly Graylock in December, 1980. The couple most recently resided at Burnt Store Marina, Punta Gorda, FL.

Mr. Bailey spent numerous hours in the service of the Narberth community. He served as a member of the zoning-hearing board, chairman of the Narberth Fireworks Committee, and was elected as a councilman to the Borough Town Counsel. During his tenure on Borough Council Mr. Bailey presided as Counsel President. Mr. Bailey also served a term as President of the Montgomery County Boroughs Association.

In addition to his wife Beverly, Mr. Bailey is survived by sons Alan, Philip and Kenneth and ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A one hour visitation, followed by a funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday June 28th at Bringhurst Funeral Home at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004. Entombment will follow the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, National Council.
