The Life of Andrew Leven Alley

Private, Company L, 21st NC Infantry, CSA Resided in Stokes County and was by occupation a farmer prior to enlisting in Wake County on July 25, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured near Chancellorsville, Virginia, May 3-4, 1863. Confined at Old Capitol Prison, Washington, DC, and Fort Delaware, Delaware, until paroled and transferred to City Point, Virginia, where he was received May 23, 1863, for exchange. Present or accounted for until captured at or near Stephenson's Depot, Virginia, on or about July 20, 1864. Confined at Camp Chase, Ohio, until paroled and transferred to Boulware's and Cox's Wharves, James River, Virginia, where he was received March 10-12, 1865, for exchange. [Records of the Federal Provost Marshal dated July, 1864, give has age as 34.]
