The Life of CHARLES EVERETT PURSER Jr

Mr. Charles Purser, Jr was part of the Sons of Confederate Veterans group that dedicated time and effort to restoring the Confederate Cemetery. But he took it it a step further...and dedicated over 25 years to preserving the graves of and researching the lives and deaths of the over 1400 Confederate soldiers interred here. He became a friend of the cemetery and staff greatly enjoyed visiting with him each week as he continued his research. He is the author of A Story Behind Every Stone: The Confederate Section of Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh NC. He is greatly missed. Mr. Purser joined the Air Force on September 15, 1958 and retired November 1, 1981. He retired at the rank of MSGT . His years of service were with the USAF Security Service as a Radio Intercept Analysis Specialist. He completed his basic training at Goodfellow AFB, San Angelo, TX. Assignments were at Pashawar, Pakistan, Kirknewton, Scotland, St. Lawrence, Alaska, San Antonia, Texas, Frankfurt, Germany, Wiesbaden, Germany, Ft. Meade, Maryland, Misawa, Japan and San Antonia, Texas. He had 20 TDY Assignments in his career.
