The Life of ANDREW EDWARD KATCHUK

Andrew Edward Katchuk, age 22, died on Friday, February 11, 2011 at his home in Raleigh. Andy was born in Raleigh, North Carolina to Pamela Adams Katchuk and Kenneth L. Katchuk, both of Raleigh. He attended Broughton High School and was currently a student at Wake Technical Community College. Andy was a young man with many gifts and an abundance of natural talents. He was a superlative student, a gifted student of music as a child, and he possessed breathtaking hand-eye coordination. Andy's greatest gift was the abundant love that was infused in his spirit. He was such a sensitive soul, a truly kind and gentle young man, and these characteristics of love and compassion emanated from his heart from the day he drew his first breath. Being such a kind and sensitive soul required him at times to armor himself to the pain of feeling so much love in his heart. Andy felt the burden of being a sweet, sensitive man on the planet Earth. In the end he succeeded brilliantly in his soul's mission to offer and receive love. Andy's parents and large number of friends will continue to experience his limitless, unconditional love as they carry his special energy in their hearts forever. Andy's life was not one that was cut too short. His was a life fully realized, fully met, and now his burdens have been lifted. He is now free from his Earthly cares, and he is now at peace, forever young and playful and happy, being generously rewarded on the other side for a life beautifully lived. Andy is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Pauline Louise Adams of Binghamton, NY; his paternal grandparents, Edward William Katchuk and Catharine Watson Katchuk of Endicott, NY; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and a host of friends who formed a universe of love and support where Andy felt safe and accepted. In this universe of friends it has been said that Andy was the gravitational center, the sun around which they revolved. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Irene Kobylarz Katchuk; by his paternal grandfather John Edward Adams; and by his uncle, David Eugene Katchuk. We know these souls have enveloped Andy in their love and welcomed him home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, February 18 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in downtown Raleigh with Father Bill McConville officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM on Thursday, February 17 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home on St. Marys Street in Raleigh. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Seth Tabb of Cary, North Carolina. Seth was instrumental in the last six months of Andy's life in helping him know that he was loved immeasurably, that he was a special soul, and that he could indeed live a life of dreams realized. Seth helped Andy begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and in the end, allowed Andy to find some peace in his heart. And, this journey with Seth helped Andy to find the ultimate light in life, the light at the end of his journey, the light that is God.

I have many fond memories of babysitting Andy when he was an infant. We must have watched "The Little Mermaid" at least twenty times together. When Andy wouldn't fall asleep for his nap, I would drive him around the block in my 1979 lime green Ford Fiesta and before we would reach the first stop sign, he would be fast asleep. I'd then carefully and quietly take him inside and put him in his crib for his nap.

I remember how much Andy loved the beach. From the time he was a little boy until the day he died, Andy was a lover of all things beach. We used to walk to the very southern point of Topsail Island and collect beautiful shells and watch the waves and sunsets together, my boy and I. Such a precious memory.
