The Life of Rachael M. Behm

Rachael M. (Mest) Behm, 94, of Topton, passed away on Tuesday August 14, 2018 in The Henry Health Care Center at The Lutheran Home at Topton. She was the widow of Howard W. Behm, who died on July 21, 1991. Born in Longswamp Township, Rachael was a daughter of the late Herbert N. and Florence H. (Sarig) Mest. She was a member of Christ (Mertz) Lutheran Church, Fleetwood (Dryville). She was employed as a sewing machine operator at the former General Seating and Sash Co., Topton, for 17 years, retiring in 1985. Prior to that, she worked alongside her late husband, Howard, on their family farm in Longswamp Township for 25 years.

Rachael was a resident of Buehrle Center at The Lutheran Home since 2007 and enjoyed participating in their activities, including BINGO. In her earlier years, Rachael liked to crochet. She also loved to go shopping with her sister, going out to eat, and above all, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and looked forward to their visits with her.

Rachael is survived by her three children, Carol A. (Behm), wife of George M. Rex, Jr., New Tripoli, Christine E. (Behm), wife of Brighton P. Reinert, Lewes, DE, and Neil W., husband of Diane (Moyer) Behm, Fleetwood; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters, Gloria (Mest), widow of Robert Haas, Breinigsville, and Marian (Mest), wife of Clarence Heffner, Lyon Station.

A funeral service to celebrate Rachael's life will be held on Monday, August 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ (Mertz) Lutheran Church, 16 Fleetwood Road, Fleetwood (Dryville), with her Pastor, Reverend Cheryl F. Meinschein officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Dryville. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Sunday evening, August 19, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 25 East Weis Street, Topton, and again on Monday morning from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. in the church. 

The family requests contributions be made in Rachael's memory to Christ (Mertz) Lutheran Church, 16 Fleetwood Road, Fleetwood, PA  19522.
