The Life of Keith A. Mertz

Keith A. Mertz, 59, of Blandon, died suddenly on Monday, August 6, 2018 at his residence. He was the husband of Diane L. (Rehrig) Mertz, whom he married on September 24, 1977. Born in Reading, Keith was a son of Kenneth W. and Hilda I.F. (Angstadt) Mertz of Fleetwood. Keith was a 1976 graduate of Oley Valley High School and attended Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kutztown. Keith was employed for almost 42 years by East Penn Manufacturing Co., Inc., Lyon Station, in various capacities, including being a Supervisor and working on the finish line.

Keith was an avid hunter and motorcycle enthusiast. He was an active member of Reading Motorcycle Club, Oley, and Kutztown Rod and Gun Club. Keith also enjoyed watching NASCAR and was a diehard Eagles Fan. He was an owner and member of Three Springs Hunting Camp, Tioga County.

In addition to his wife of 40 years, Diane, and parents, Kenneth and Hilda, Keith is survived by his son, Robert K., husband of Chrisy (Kunkel) Mertz, Shillington; two grandchildren, Robbie K. Culmer and Kathryn G. Mertz. He is also survived by his siblings, Michael K. Mertz, companion of Linda Bixler, Hamburg, Diane L. (Mertz), wife of Gary Jowers, Harrisburg, NC, and Jeffrey D., husband of Linda Mertz, Bernville; nieces and nephews, Kelsie M., Cody W., Justin K. and Nicole L. Mertz. Keith was predeceased by a daughter, Rebecca Louise Mertz on September 29, 2012.

A memorial service to celebrate Keith's life will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, PA, with The Reverend Dr. Dennis S. Ritter officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday evening from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Please come wearing your casual clothing.
