The Life of June E. Schlegel

June E. (Meck) Schlegel, 85, of Longswamp Township, died Saturday, April 7, 2018 in her home, with her loving husband by her side.  She was the wife of Gene C. Schlegel, whom she married on January 19, 1952.  Born in Longswamp Township, she was a daughter of the late Raymond P. and Mabel G. (Yoder) Meck. Mrs. Schlegel was employed as a line operator at Kraft Foods, at its former Allentown location; then in the Deli at Radcliffe's Grocery Store, Mertztown; and finally as a retail clerk at Peters Brothers Meat Market, Cetronia, where her husband worked as a butcher.  June loved all types of animals and enjoyed watching the birds.  In earlier years, she was a Den Mother for the Longswamp Cub Scout Troop and was active with the former East Penn Chargers Football organization.

In addition to her husband of 66 years, Gene, June is survived by sons, Carlton G., husband of, Cheryl (Gambler) Schlegel, Millsboro, DE; Randy P., husband of, Margaret M. (Szlyk) Schlegel, Brooklyn, CT; Gene A., husband of, Eileen G. (Schade) Schlegel, Lyon Station; and Keith A. Schlegel, Bowers.  Other survivors include, a sister, April (Meck), wife of, Curtis Underwood, Blocton, Alabama; a brother,  Philip, husband of Nancy (Miller) Meck, Mertztown.  There are four grandchildren, Michael G. Schlegel, Leslie Schlegel, Shaun K. Schlegel and Lauren D. (Schlegel) Bohning; and seven great grandchildren, Tristin, Ryleigh, Connor, Kaydence, Logan, Jackson and Peyton.  June was predeceased by a sister, Ramona Meck.

Funeral services for June will be private at the convenience of the family.
