The Life of Gerald Gene Koons

Gerald Gene Koons, 69, of Breinigsville, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the widower of Jane A. (Ludwig) Koons, who passed away on January 23, 2017.

Born in Hershey, PA, Gerald was a son of the late Charles E., Sr., and Ella J. (Masterson) Koons. After high school, Gerald enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served as an Airman, 1st Class, during the Vietnam era. Gerald was employed by the former Stroh’s and F. & M. Schaefer Breweries, Fogelsville, for 29 years. Following that, he worked at the J.C. Penney Distribution Center, Breinigsville, where he retired in 2012. In his younger years, Gerald enjoyed playing the guitar. More recently, he enjoyed collecting things and going to local flea markets and yard sales. He was a simple man who also enjoyed traveling to the beach and loved eating lobster and cheese.

Gerald is survived by his three Children, Gwynn A. Koons, Breinigsville, Robin L. (Koons) Lobach, Trexlertown, and Paul A. Koons, Breinigsville; six grandchildren, Blane Lee, fiancé of Rebekah Hinkle, Tiffany Dobracki, and her husband, Neil, Trevor Lobach, Felicia Lobach, Samantha Koons, and Ethan Koons; 6 Great-Grandchildren, Skylar, Isabella and Reagen Bohler, Sophia Dobracki, Christian Lee, Krystal Hinkle-Lee. Gerald is also survived by a Brother, Lyle Koons, and his wife, Lamay, of Delaware. Gerald was predeceased by his Wife, Parents, Sisters, Sonjia “Sonny” (Koons) Swanson and Jane (Koons) Young, and a Brother, Charles E. Koons, Jr., in infancy.

A funeral service to celebrate Gerald’s life will be held on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 2:00 PM in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with Pastor Rod Hawkins officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by Ray A. Master, Post 217, American Legion Honor Guard, Topton, and The United States Air Force, will follow in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Fleetwood. Relatives and friends may call on Friday afternoon from 1:00 to 2:00 PM in the funeral home.

The family requests contributions be made in Gerald’s memory to Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., P.O. Box 292, Kutztown, PA  19530-0292, to help defray final expenses. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
