The Life of Lee H Hertzog

Lee H. “Jock” Hertzog, 80, of Topton, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017 in his residence, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Geraldine F. (Ziegler) Hertzog, whom he married on August 16, 1958.

Born in Topton, Lee was a son of the late George S. and Carrie M. (Fenstermacher) Hertzog. He was a member of Saint Peter's United Church of Christ, Topton, and was a 1954 graduate of Kutztown Area High School. Lee was employed as a Foreman at the former Caloric Corporation, Topton, for 34 years, until the close of the plant in 1991. He most recently worked in the Maintenance Department at Kutztown University for over seven years, retiring in 1999. An avid hunter and fisherman, Jock was a member of the NIMROD Fish & Wildlife Assn., Alburtis and the Alburtis and Mertztown Rod and Gun Clubs. He enjoyed playing and watching sports, whether it was cheering on the Penn State Football Team or rooting for the New York Yankees. In his younger years, Jock was the former Manager of the Borough Line Inn Softball Team, Topton. He also kept active playing softball, bowling and golf. Jock was a member of Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion, Topton, and the Lyons Fire Company.

Lee is survived by his Wife of 58 years, Geraldine; a Daughter, Pamela L. (Hertzog) Reinhard, companion of Dennis R. Stettler, Kutztown; 2 Grandsons, Derek M., husband of Jamie (Shipe) Reinhard, Fleetwood, and Chad E., husband of Lauren (Spear) Reinhard, Ankeny, Iowa. He is also survived by a Sister, Betty Lou (Hertzog) Weidner, Allentown; Mother-in-law, Bertha S. (Conrad) Zeigler, Topton, several nieces and nephews, and his extended Hertzog and Ziegler family. He was predeceased by his parents and 9 siblings.

A memorial service to celebrate Lee's life will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 11:00 AM in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with Reverend Roger M. Ulrich and Reverend Robert C. Santucci, officiating. Burial will follow in Topton Union Cemetery, Topton. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the funeral home.
