The Life of William E Jones Jr

William E. Jones, Jr., 82, of Kutztown, died suddenly on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, shortly after arrival at The Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading. He was the husband of Lydia I. (Beyerlein) Jones, whom he married June 10, 1967.

Born in Pottsville, Schuylkill County, he was a son of the late William E., Sr., and Josephine (Spitzner) Jones. Bill was a member of Saint John's Lutheran Church, Kutztown, where he was a member of the choir, former church council member, Sunday School teacher, catechetical instructor and was chairman of the hoagie sales for over ten years. Mr. Jones was a member of Kutztown Lions Club, Kutztown. Bill honorably served his country as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army in the Ordinance Corps, stationed at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Aberdeen, MD. William received a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Physics in 1956 and a Master of Arts Degree in Education in 1962 both from Lehigh University, Bethlehem. In 1971, he received a Master of Arts in Mathematics from University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS.  Mr. Jones was a mathematics professor from 1966 until his retirement in 2002, at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, Kutztown. He also taught mathematics for Tulpehocken School District, Bethel, and science for Upper Perkiomen School District, East Greenville, Montgomery County.  He enjoyed playing basketball, having played in high school, college and continued into his 60's. Bill was a member of Kutztown Community Choir, Kutztown, for many years.

In addition to his Wife of 49 years, Lydia, Bill is survived by a Daughter, Laura J. (Jones) Donkus, Kutztown, and a Son, William E., III, husband of Kelly (Chappell) Jones, Fort Collins, CO. Other survivors include a Brother, Robert C. Jones, husband of Sandra McSwain-Jones, Fleetwood. There are also 6 Grandchildren: Catherine D. Donkus, Cole J. Donkus, W. Evan Jones, Emma A. Jones, Pearson C. Jones and Elizabeth L. Jones. There are 2 Nephews, Eric Jones and Jared Jones.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2017, at 4:00 PM from Saint John's Lutheran Church, 201 East Main Street, Kutztown, with Reverend Mary Ann Hamm, officiating. Inurnment in Fairview Cemetery, Kutztown. Family and friends may call Sunday, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM in the church.

Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
