The Life of Blake L Herman

Blake L. Herman, 74, of Fleetwood, formerly of Mertztown, died on Sunday, March 26, 2017, in Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading. He was the companion of Bonnie A. (Rothenberger) Pleva.

Born in Kutztown, he was a son of Kathleen S. (Rhode) Herman, Mertztown, companion of Donald Delp, Mertztown, and the late Herbert A. Herman. Blake was a former member of Saint Peter's United Church of Christ, Topton.  He was a 1961 graduate of Brandywine Heights High School, Topton. Blake was a member of Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion, Topton, Pike Township Sportsmen's Association, Lyons and Kutztown Fire Companies. He formerly belonged to many area Rod & Gun Clubs and Fish & Game Associations. He was an outdoorsman at heart.  Mr. Herman worked on the assembly line at Mack Trucks, Inc., Macungie, over 30 years until his retirement in 2002.

In addition to his Mother, Kathleen and his companion of 11 years, Bonnie, Blake is survived by Daughters, Kelly A. (Herman), wife of Douglas J. Neimeyer and Kim R. (Herman), wife of John P. Kilgus, both of Mertztown; and their Mother, Donna D. (Ziegler) Herman, Mertztown, whom he was married to for 42 years; and 3 Grandchildren, Alyssa K. Neimeyer, Aaron B. Kilgus and Alexis L. Neimeyer.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 11:00 AM from Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, 50 Luther Drive, Mertztown, with Reverend Roger M. Ulrich, officiating. Relatives and friends may call on Friday morning from 9:30 to 11:00 AM in the church. Inurnment in Longswamp Union Cemetery, Mertztown, will be private at the convenience of the family.

The family requests contributions be made in Blake’s memory to Saint Paul's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 117, Mertztown, PA 19539-0117. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
