The Life of Richard G DeLong

Richard G. DeLong, 79, of Topton, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016 in his residence.

Born in Kutztown, he was a son of the late George R. and Luella (Weidner) DeLong. Richard was a member of Zion’s Union Church, Maxatawny. He was a 1955 graduate of Kutztown Area High School, and served our country in the United States Air Force, obtaining the rank of Airman, Second Class. Richard was employed as a truck driver for Roadway Express Trucking, for over 30 years, until his retirement in 1999. He also was employed by the city of Ocean City, MD, as a truck and bus driver for several years. Most recently, after moving back to Berks County, Richard was employed by Christian Concerns Communities, Douglassville, serving as the bus driver for Saucony Cross, Saucony Meadows and Wilson Manor, in Kutztown, for the last two years, last working on Thursday. Richard was a member of Huguenot Lodge No. 337, F. & A.M., Kutztown, Rajah Shrine, Reading, and the Central Pennsylvania Teamsters. He was a lifelong hard worker who enjoyed traveling to the beach and spending time with his family, especially his two grandsons.

Richard is survived by a Daughter, Cindi L. (DeLong), wife of Randy J. Marsteller, Kutztown; 2 Grandsons, First Lieutenant Rev. Eric T. Marsteller, U.S. Army, Westminster, MD, and Austin J. Marsteller, Vancouver, WA; a Brother, James B., husband of Alice (Lutz) DeLong, Lawrenceville, PA; Brother-in-law, Elmer F. "Buddy" Hensinger, a resident of Lehigh Center, Macungie. He was predeceased by his Parents; and 3 Sisters, Anna M. (DeLong) Bauman, Eleanor M. (Delong) Hensinger, and Cynthia DeLong.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday evening, December 13, 2016 at 6:00 PM in Zion’s Union Church, 329 Church Road, Kutztown (Maxatawny), with Reverend Jeffrey J. Butz officiating. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday from 5:00 to 6:00 PM in the church. Inurnment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Richard’s memory to Zion’s Union Church Memorial Fund, 329 Church Road, Kutztown, PA  19530. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
